Tuesday, August 4, 2009 - Sherwood Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (SCPAAA) participated in the Sherwood National Night 0ut community party at Sherwood Forest, where more than 700 people attended. There was a brief story printed in The Leader newspaper. There was also mention of the Sherwood event in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. Our SCPAAA booth was near the food line, and we handed out about 100 Census2010 flyers to interested people. At our booth, we had Census2010 flyers, puppy temporary tatoos, and three special Sherwood Police puppies with blankets (stuffed animals for children) with a Sherwood Police Patch. The puppies were given as door prizes at about thirty minute intervals during the National Night 0ut party. Many people took Census2010 flyers saying they were interested in looking at the Census2010 website and learning more about the census.

Saturday, July 4, 2009 - SCPAAA members were at Sherwood Forest, just inside the entry doors, accepting donations to help purchase K9 vests and sharing information about the Sherwood Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and our outstanding police department. The next citizens academy will be held in 2010.

Saturday, May 30,2009 - SCPAAA members participated in the Partners Auxiliary Working for the Sherwood Shelter (P.A.W.S.) “Pet Fair & FUN Raiser” held at Sherwood City Hall from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The all-day event featured seminar speakers Desiree Bender from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and Dr. Blake Sasse, the non-game mammal coordinator for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. SCPAAA is accepting contribution for ballistic/stab/shank resistant vests and cooling vests for three Sherwood K9 police dogs that work along side Sherwood police officers. Regular K9 ballistic vests offer slash knife protection, but are not "knife-proof". Stab-resistant vests offer a much higher level of protection from stabbing attacks. Legislators were there to speak about animal issues in Arkansas. There were demonstrations by police dogs, search dogs, and Ducks Unlimited dogs. There were many fun events, pet parades and information booths. Sherwood District Judge Milas “Butch” Hale III, State Representative Barry Hyde, State Senator Mary Ann Salmon, Sherwood Mayor Virginia Hillman, and several Sherwood Aldermen attended.

Saturday, March 29, 2009 -  SCPAAA members assisted with the 2009 Statewide Veterans Memorial observance ceremony to honor the memory of all military personnel from Arkansas who have perished in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 29 at the Arkansas Veterans Cemetery at 1501 W. Maryland Ave., north of the North Little Rock Airport. Hospital corpsman Michael Vann Johnson Jr., who served with the 3rd Battalion Fifth Marine Regiment of the 1st Marine Division in Iraq, was the first Arkansan to die in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
